Are you scared of seeing a dentist? Does the thought stress you out?
Calm & Caring Cavendish are here to help!
For nervous patients, a trip to the dentist can be a stressful experience, even getting into the dentists’ chair can be too much.
We understand this completely, which is why we will never rush you. Our friendly team will take as much time as you need to discuss your options, making sure you fully understand, and are happy with, your treatment plan.
Some patients need a little extra help to undergo dental treatment. For those nervous patients, conscious sedation is available. This induces a state of ‘deep calm’, allowing everybody the opportunity to have the smile they desire!
Painless Injections With Quick sleeper
I’ve invested in what’s called the Quick Sleeper. I’ve used it on quite a few patients, quite a few nervous patients and the feedback I’ve received from the patients is that the Quick Sleeper made the injection painless. One of the big advantages of the Quick Sleeper is if you’ve ever had the injection that goes in the roof of your mouth, then you would know about that injection. It’s probably the most painful injection to give. With the Quick Sleeper, we don’t need to give that injection. Now, that reduces your anxiety, if you know you’re going to have a painless injection, it reduces the anxiety.

How I Deal With Anxious Patients
The Anxious Dental Patient Process
Here at Cavendish Dental we don’t judge people because nervous patients quite often don’t like to show their teeth. Many anxious patients will say “I bet you haven’t seen teeth like mine”, but I always tell them that I have seen worse.
I never judge anybody, we are here to help. My nurse she is experienced in helping nervous patients.
50% of patients are nervous of the dentist due to bad experiences they have had in the past.
Most people are nervous of the injection, so we try to make the injection as painless as possible. We use numbing gel, and smaller needles, taking it slowly so you feel in control.
You can put your hand up if you want me to stop doing something that you don’t like. We can see how we can relax you and calm you down.
Anything that can help reduce the anxiety.
For very nervous patients we can offer sedation, intravenous sedation, taking the anxiety out of the treatment.
So if you are really anxious first time we would use sedation to do the dentistry. My aim would be to try to eventually get you to no longer feel scared when you come in to the dentist, not feel anxious and be able to have your treatment without sedation.
Conscious sedation allows even the most nervous of patients to undergo any dental treatment.
Some people refer to this treatment as “twilight sleep” as the patient is not completely sedated, but experiences a feeling of deep calm and wellbeing. This procedure allows the patient to speak and respond to instructions from the dentist, whilst undergoing their treatment.
Some patients report that they remember nothing about the treatment, even though they were able to talk and respond the whole time!
